About the Role

Wati is seeking a highly motivated Junior Backend Software Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. You’ll help build scalable systems that power millions of automated customer conversations daily using cutting-edge technologies like REST APIs, microservices, MongoDB, and cloud platforms like GCP and AWS.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend systems integrating with external APIs and customer tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams in an agile development cycle.
• Design and optimize RESTful APIs and scalable microservices architecture.
• Improve backend application performance, reliability, and code maintainability.
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and team knowledge sessions.
• Contribute to sprint rituals like stand-ups, planning, retrospectives, and demos.
• Investigate and resolve production issues with a strong focus on system availability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 0–2 years of experience in backend development (internships count!).
• Strong foundations in OOP, algorithms, and data structures.
• Knowledge of backend languages – C#, Java, or Golang preferred.
• Experience or exposure to MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with GCP or AWS is a plus.
• Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.
